- Brief Summary
-
Contest for a logo for crowdSPRING, a new company involved in the creative process. We help to generate ideas and visual concepts. We love the idea of networks or groups of people contributing to a solution, idea, process, or project. Logo should not be too "cartoony" or too "technical". We like Web 2.0 styles. Nov. 30, 2006 Update: please see our general comments below.

In terms of signing that agreement can the winner still use the logo in his/her portfolio?

Yes, the winner can use the logo in her/her portfolio. And, of course, those who do not win are free to use the logo they submit and their ideas in their portfolios or for other clients/contests.

This is probably a stupid question since the name was specifically typed crowdSPRING - but is the client open to other letter arrangements that work or are they set on the above typing.

This a quote from the briefing.
"The logo must include the name crowdSPRING (while we will have a website, we do not want the ".com" in the logo). We like the lower and uppercase letters as typed here, but we are open to suggestions on better ways to write our name."

General Feedback on November 28, 2006:
Hello all, Thanks so much for all of the submissions to date; it is great to see such a flow of ideas and creativity. We have been posting specific feedback to each of the submissions (including reactions to graphics, colors, fonts, etc.), and suggesting some specific direction to some of you. We are finding ourselves most attracted to elegant and dynamic designs, less so the flowing, florid ones. Strong graphic sensibility and the opportunity for branding are apparent in some of the best work so far and we would encourage you to head in that direction. We might also like to see some of you play around with a stylized letter c or cs. Bold, graphic, elegant, dynamic is what we are looking for. Some very impressive work.

It seems, at quick glance, non of the entries so far are to your liking, this is going to be tougher then I thought... back to the drawing board!

We like all of the entries for various reasons (which we tried to communicate in detail last night by providing feedback to all that were submitted prior to last night), but only a few so far stand out in our minds as front-runners for what we are looking: 1080p entry 1, interpidguppy entry 5, and tombang entry 1. We have made some suggestions to those three on some revisions we would like to see.

General Feedback on November 30, 2006:
Thank you every for all of the submissions are revisions to prior submissions. We continue to be very impressed by the level of talent and creativity and the very different ideas with which we have been presented. We have again posted specific feedback to every submission. At this time, we find ourselves very much attracted to two ideas: entries by interpidguppy (entries 7 and 8) and tombang. Please see our comments to those entries if you would like to revise or resubmit. We like the great sense of energy and motion in those entries and the dynamic quality to them. We like the use of bolder fonts and the color combinations. We like that the graphic in both communicates a message that reinforces the text, rather than communicates a collateral message.

General Feedback on December 4, 2006:
Thanks again for the continued submissions and revisions. We have again posted detailed feedback to each submission. At this point, we find ourselves interested in three ideas: nvf, intrepidguppy 12 and tombang 3. While we like submissions from other people, we would not encourage others to continue revising their existing ideas. As always, we remain open minded about new ideas and submissions, as should be evident by the fact that nvf recently submitted their entry and it has joined our list of favorites. Here is what we like about those three: they are all dynamic, clean and crisp. They use bold fonts and colors and use complementary color combinations. They use graphics that complement the text and do not overpower it. The nvf and interpidguppy graphics have a playful sensibility which we like very much (without being cartoony). The tombang submission is very interesting and dynamic, although a bit less playful and as you can see from the specific comments, we want to see a variation on that one that has a slightly more playful feel to it. What we particularly find intersting about the tombang submission is its three dimensional quality that accomplishes this in a very low key elegant manner.
We clearly do not like floral, water type images and very much like graphics to have some proportion to the text.
Since we set the contest for 14 days, we do intend to let it run its course and as always, will continue to provide feedback. Thanks to all.

General Feedback on December 9, 2006:
Only 2 days to go until the contest ends. We again thank everyone for the submissions and revisions. We have been very impressed by the quantity and quality of the work, and particularly by the range of creativity we have seen in your submissions. While we prefer some to others, you should all be proud of your creative submissions and we are confident that many of you will find a home for your great ideas on other contests.
Our short top 4 list: NVF, interpidguppy, tsepriand and tombang. We had requested some revisions from tombang and had not seen any yet, so it might be a short top 3 list after all.
We still welcome new ideas, but strongly encourage you to look carefully at our general feedback here and above and at the submissions on our short list. As you see by our inclusion of tsepriand on our short list, it's never too late for a new idea.
We look forward to providing our final feedback and comments and selecting a winner. We anticipate that we will select and announce a winner within several days after the contest ends.
Thanks to all.

General feedback for December 12th.
The contest is now closed and we wanted to thank everyone for their participation and for the hard work. The designs are outstanding overall - a wonderful collection of ideas and an outpouring of creativity. We are so happy with both the richness of visual choice and the range of ideas. We will be submitting a final round of feedback today for the most recent submissions, and will be making our choice within the next few days. Thanks again everyone for making this contest so successful for us and thanks again for your artistry and effort.
We intend to hold other contests in the future and would greatly appreciate any feedback from you on these questions, or in general:
-Was our project brief adequate and clear?
-Was our feedback appropriate? What was most useful in our feedback? least useful?
-Would you still have participated in this contest had we offered a lower amount?
-Was the duration of the contest right? Too long? Too short?- User

Our top three finalists are: NVF, Intrepidguppy and Tsepriand. Although we also initially liked the design from tombang, the revisions NVF, interpidguppy and tsepriand made to their designs, which addressed our specific comments, made those designs more appropriate and more to our liking.

I'd like to say I thought your contest was professional, and while a tad dragged out (I understand the group feedback process can be that way) it's length was good. As for you other questions, I thought everything was satisfactory.
Two things I would say about the feedback: I appreciated the SPECIFIC details in your comments. One thing you could dispense with is what I feel is too much rambling; the specifics get lost in excessive words. Too much talking sometime seems like "ego-stroking", which I don't need :) I can take straightforward talk. Say what you like, say what you don't like.

Final General Feeback, December 15.
We have selected the submission from intrepidguppy as the winning submission. Congratulations! This was a very difficult choice, as we thought our top 3 all had excellent promise and quality. Ultimately, what we liked about the winning selection was that it met all of our criteria (including those we developed as we posted specific and general feedback). It offered us strong branding possibilities (among other things, we tried to picture what we could do with the graphics during holidays or when animated, for example, and concluded that the intrepidguppy graphic offered us more flexibility). All three finalists were wonderful to work with in terms of revisions.
The revision submissions from NVF and tsepriand should be a very good example for everyone on how to send entries and revisions (numbering within an entry, and offering a black and white version).
We had a very positive experience and are very pleased with our result. We anticipate coming back for future contests.
We do encourage people to post any comments (particularly in response to the questions we posed above.
