    I think you should try light background colors for things on the left.

    Regarding design #20

    All those boxes (Updated journals, This week's stories) need to be separated. Also, I think you should use solid color for background, not gradient.

    Can you try editing "New users" and "New stories" to look similar to "Updated journals" etc..?

    Regarding design #18

    I think I like this color scheme more... I'm still not sure about the content area. It looks like it's a part of some other layout... It's like it doesn't belong here, I don't know how to explain it. Menu and footer are great :)
