After much debate, we have unfortunately agreed that we didn't find a suitable design on this occasion. Obviously, the responsibility for that rests with us and we will need to provide a more specific brief in future contests. We are grateful for the time and effort that's gone into preparing and submitting designs and apologise that we weren't able to come up with a winner this time.

Sorry Gavin, i think you should not talk about my disappointment about my fault. this is not the question. I know the rules i accepted... if every designers could win, this site would be a Paradise!
What i wanted to clarify is that all CHs must give ALL designers the same opportunities and with the adequate time (in this case the exented time could have been a bit longer, so everyone should have read about the new direction aint it?).
And having a generic brief or a specific, iper-detailed one, is really not the same (as a freelance travel photographer you can easy reach a clear destination than an hidden treasury site).
Now, you can realize i'm not talking about my personal design but about the community and the relationship with CHs. All the eliminated designers were apart of the chage?

Was a pleasure, believe me, to share in a friendly manner some opinions with you. Have a nice day and a greater Summer.

Thanks for your comment Venanzio. The brief didn't change so much as it evolved. I would think that's a natural part of the creative process and it's certainly been the case whenever I've worked with designers on projects - which I do a lot. We all contribute and ideas that are put forward naturally influence the eventual design. We liked your first designs and gave you ideas about how they might be improved to fit with our concept. Unfortunately, your designs weren't as strong as some others. One of the benefits of 99designs is that it generates a lot of ideas very quickly - 132 designs in one week in this case. But it also means that 131 designs are going to fall by the wayside. That's a lot of work to dismiss and a lot of people to disappoint.

We added a more detailed brief towards the end of the contest because we didn't feel that we had seen what we wanted at that point. So, we tried to be more specific in the hope that it would prompt some fresh ideas.

So, I understand your comment and hope you won't feel that we were unfair. We tried hard to give feedback on each design and to play an active part in the contest. We won't be able to pursue every design and whilst we're sorry that you weren't more fortunate on this occasion, hope you'll realise that the potential for disappointment is, unfortunately, something you have to accept when you enter a contest like this.

I hope it won't stop you submitting designs elsewhere and we hope that you'll contribute to any future contests that we run here.

    Cheers.

oh, the brief changed a lot at the end of the contest. My proposals were eliminated (and this is simply part of CH rights)
But i ask myself if this metamorphosis in the brief is kind and correct.
Sometimes 99designs, that is the best choice for designers and CHs, looks like a XIX century work market...

Hi, we've narrowed the selection down to two designs and will try them both out to see which works better. We'll be contacting the two designers later this week to say what we want to do next. Many thanks to all who submitted designs, which we're very grateful for.

Hi, we've decided to extend the contest by 24 hours. We have a shortlist but don't think we exactly have the right design yet.

We're hoping that giving a very specific update to our brief might prove to be useful and may prompt a few more ideas. What follows is a tighter description of an idea that we thing may work. Please feel free to inject your own creativity into our basic outline.

Logo: a Polaroid print (white border, black inside) with two quotation marks inside the print (white on black) and an asterisk outside the print (top, left).

You can see a very rough draft at http://sn.im/nz2ut-ut6.

We're hoping that the print and quotation marks will provide a good representation of what our business is and the asterisk is hopefully something that signifies "special" or "look at this".

The ratios in my rough draft are not important and we're happy to see various fonts being used. This draft is really only a very rough illustration of what we're looking at. The logo will also need to have the words "Write & Light" included, probably in the same font as the quotation marks and asterisk.

We hope this helps. Please ask if you have any questions or want clarification.

    Many thanks.
