- Brief Summary
-
Our organization is looking for a logo that captures two elements: water (specifically global safe drinking water) and a global map (on which we anticipate people from around the world will provide information on the water quality of their home or community’s local water supplies).
There are three distinct motifs we have in mind, that would likely generate different logo suggestions:
1. The 1st idea takes off from the image of two unified spirals, based on an ancient bronze spectacle fibula on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. This fibula is 8th – 7th century B.C. from Greece or Italy. [See this example: http://yfrog.com/51spiral1p ] We are looking for a logo inspired by this figula that would express our organization’s key themes of water and a global map. So, the left spiral is water… like a wave moving into the right spiral, which is the earth, the earth map, the globe. The motif should capture the idea of water being inseparable from the earth. The earth-globe could also potentially (or not) indicate some specific place. Because, we intend to have this map show each individual water source that all of humanity is drinking, one water supply at a time. We would like to see creative ideas based on this piece of art.
2. The 2nd concept takes off from a late Minoan bronze ewer and bowl. Again, although not as clearly, you can see the spiral motif. The idea would be to develop a logo that somehow captures that spiral motif, which some say is a symbol of water.
3. The 3rd concept is to take a stylized globe, the earth, and fill it with water drops. Each drop representing one water source, which we hope our map would show the quality of, once it takes form.

Thank you, all, for your upcoming submissions. Please read the description and design brief, as our suggestions have changed to hopefully obtain a better logo.
Also, at this time, please submit logo designs that do not contain the organization name--just the symbol/image.
Thank you,
Scot

Dear all,
We want to sincerely thank you for your hard effort and thoughtful and artistic designs. We greatly appreciate your assistance in navigating this process and working tirelessly with our requests or comments. You have all put forth amazing work, and in so many cases we wish our needs were slightly different to be met by the beautiful designs of your creation
Unfortunately, at this point we have not found any logo that captures our interest while also fulfilling the visual and aesthetic needs of our organization and its work. As such, we will extend the contest by one day in case anyone had last-minute inspirations they wanted to get in. Otherwise, we do not anticipate any winner of the contest at this point, however, we will need to seek some alternative option for the future.
Hopefully we can again work together once we establish a logo through another agency, and perhaps there will be opportunities for website or other work in the future.
Kind regards and thank you again for your help!

Thank you for providing some samples. I don't think there is any need to apologize. Generally, I think, it's the designers responsibility to ask the right question in order to clarify the needs of the client. Thanks for all the feedback.

Adingok,
Out of the water logos we were able to find, this is one we like:
http://www.portlandonline.com/share…?id=180709This is along the same lines of what we're doing (for our org. work):
http://www.carolina.com/product/earthWe are looking for something unique, so it has been hard to convey some of this for us. Our apologies! Here is one logo we like, although I can't say if this inspiration would lead to the right logo for Citizen Water...but? http://www.oneearthdesigns.org/files/logo.png
By the way, your place sounds beautiful!

Alternatively, if anyone has ideas for something that is "pretty" or "artistic" and inspiring, and make people think of water (perhaps the idea of water or combining water in some way).

Hi Scot,
With one day left of the contest, I've looked over the designs you've given 3 or 4 stars for elements that characterize the visual style you like, but the only words that can describe all of them are round and stylized. Are their more specific words that describe your favorite visual style? What visual elements appeal to you? Perhaps you can find words to describe it, or provide links to logos or examples of architecture or fine art that you really like. For example, do you like Picasso (abstract), Mondrian (boxy, primary colors), Gothic rosette windows on cathedrals in Europe (classic, spiritual, symmetrical), Egyptian hieroglyphics (primitive), art nouveau (modern, flowing, sinuous lines, stylized)?
I think you have been very clear about the concept or symbols you would like your logo to represent, but some discussion on the elements of art would be helpful at this 11th hour.
Best Wishes for the contest and your organization.
