Actively commenting on entries should more important for potential entrants in or off as it gives the feel that if the CH is serious in the contest(not another dead contest.)
The "off-topic" discussions anyhow are stand on the designer's side, who accepted the prize may enter.

@CH- you are absolutely right: if you dont like any of the submissions you dont have to choose one.
But let me say that here you are not only a buyer, but really an Art Director giving suggestions and moving things the way you want and need. Let me say you totally fail on this. You probably read only the off-topics discussions, but didnt answered to my question...
Strange that proposals with 3 stars had no development... Ask yourselve WHY.Have your nice christmas.

None of the designs met my expectation. I think a lot of potential designers were put off as there has been far too much irrelivent and off topic discussion by a small minority of greedy designers who demanded a higher prize. If you dont like the contest just dont get involved in the contest discussion please.

One more thought regarding the quality of work for the price of the contest: designs are worth what someone will pay for them, no more and no less. I do think that the designers on this site produce some great work and you end up getting very good value for the money you invest, but if the designs were worth 10 times as much as they're awarded, those designers wouldn't be designing here because they'd be selling their designs to the people who are willing to pay 10 times as much for them.
Just another thought ;)

Just a note for those of you who are wondering why a web design company would outsource design work, and I'd like to hear your response. Some people in the world are simply coders who write software; they are left-brained people who deal more in logic than art (I'm one of them, I suck at art). Does that mean that I can't start a web-design company? It surely doesn't, just like it doesn't mean that you artistic types can't start a software company.
Some people who do freelance web design work choose to act as 'project managers', outsourcing things like the design and handling the coding and managerial stuff themselves. Myself, I recognize that I cannot deliver a quality design to my client, so it is better for myself and the client to have an expert do that work. I've very good at the other parts of the business, just bad at design.
I would argue that it is smart for someone to recognize that they're not good at something and outsource it to a professional. If they can get a client to pay $1000 for a site that cost $250 to design, they just made $750. If you don't think a prize is 'worthy' enough then why don't you just ignore it? I certainly don't see anything ignorant or disrespectful about outsourcing design work, for any amount; you don't have to enter the contest.
Just a thought.
