Brief Summary

FINAL PROTOTYPE:
http://www.faceyspacey.com/misc/My%…pe%20H.jpg
http://www.faceyspacey.com/misc/My%…pe%20I.jpg

So, first before we talk about the "scene" below the nav-bar, let's talk about the header, and everything below that scene: It needs to be pretty close to what we have in the prototypes. Don't get too creative with it, unless you're really confident about your idea. We're very happy with a lot of the stylistic elements we already have (specifically the nav-bar that has that arrow that connects to a white background container that wraps the whole site; the sides like cafe mom, the footer like cafe mom, the elements in the 2 columns above the footer and their single color backgrounds). . Don't try to change the layout. Just enhance things stylistically and keep it simple. Just try to come up with what you think the style should be. This is a social network and service for people interested in getting in shape: working out, losing weight, etc. It can't be too heavily oriented either to body-building or losting weight. It needs to be for anyone who wants to get in shape. Moreover, it needs to be a professional almost corporate identity style, but with a welcoming feel like cafemom.com. We're looking to essentially build: "CafeFitness.com" .

REGARDING THE SCENE WITH THE 3 POINTS BELOW THE NAV-BAR (THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART RIGHT NOW):

It needs to show people getting in shape across at least 2 places morphed together (e.g. a gym, and a beach). And in it, it needs to have the before & after thing. And you need to imagine that as an animation that happens when each of the points in the left are clicked. The idea here is: a globe that rotates through several different scenes as the links in the left are clicked. So imagine a rounded globe with about 1-2 scenes per point. Each scene morphs with the next scene somehow, and as you go to the next point, the earth rotates and the scene nicely morphs along with the rotation. This needs to be vector design with cartoon. It also needs 2 pictures of a human being for the before and after concept; and it needs to be placed in the cartoon scene nicely; it also needs a speech bubble stating what progress the person made. Lastly, the only thing not required is the rotating earth--this can obviously happen with a nice animation without a rotating earth, and that might be easier to do, but use the rotating earth concept as inspiration. The idea is that we want to show that the community is the whole world, while also showing different fitness settings (the gym, outdoors, montains, beach, running on the street/treadmill, etc). ALSO: make it seem welcoming and beautiful like cafemom.com. We're doing a lot more than they are in this scene, so it will be very important to make it not seem too busy, and easy on the eyes.

First, if you're reading this, I highly recommend contests hosted by FaceySpacey. He did a great job for us! Now that we have our logo and our front page, we'd like to have a little fun! Check out the new contest we've launched at

Hey everyone. I'd like to thank you all for an amazing design contest here. I've never received so many designs for a homepage contest before! Quality work everyone. We really all worked as a team to get what the site needed. I wish I could award everyone, and maybe I'll feel more comfortable doing more expensive contests in the future or something. But I would like to say that everyone collectively contributed to a group vision here, which came out beautifully. We couldn't have done this without all the designers that participated.

Also, I want to let everyone know that SoulReverie is the MAIN CONTEST WINNER, and KKKapt is the secondary contest winner. There's a prize split between them which I won't disclose publicly.

Otherwise, I want to thank the runners up, which are:

    1) Converge
    2) Netraam
    3) meandmydesigns
GREAT JOB GUYS! Hopefully you'll win one of my future contests.

    later everyone!

So Thanks again everyone. I'll keep you posted on my next design contest!

Balron. Thank you for your point. I will definitely mention that there is a possibility for a prize split at the beginning of all my contests from now on. YOU ARE RIGHT! Talk to you soon.

I was probably too harsh in previous comment, sorry for that. It's true that you did a lot of work and gave a lot of feedback ▬ that's good.

About prototype. It might be because of my poor english..but I didn't want to point at any semantics. I just wanted to say, that I see prototype as something like (here will be header, here will be dropdown navigation, next to it login form wtc.) but your one was too much specific .. it was more like: Put header from cofe mom here, nav from cofe mom there and do not forget to place cofe mom footer over there also do not change layout, just put it together to look nice). When I thin about it.. it is still job for designer..to make it look good together, but I just did feel, that there was very little space for some creativity and this is why I said that thing about MSpaint.
Prize split..well everyone probably thinks in different way. It's ok to split price, but you really should mention it since beggining of contest..not after first hundred of entries. There was one contest, where ppl were working on spaceships. Everyone got 5$ for each accepted entry. Everyone liked and enjoyed this contest even when price was "small"...because everyone did know what's happening. I guess, that everyone would dissapointed if that CH would announce that prize split before end of contest.

Anyway..you are right about wasting time... there are still many terrible CH's..you are great one next to them. So good luck in next contest and please keep in mind, that there are many designers, which do not like surprises in their jobs :)

@Balron, you tell me how to make a better prototype than what I made (which I made in MSpaint)? You have no point here whatsoever. Of course I don't need the designer to make my prototype. That's why I'm here. The point is for a non-designer to communicate what he wants to designers. If you're getting caught up on the definition of a prototype being a complete polished design from another designer, then all I have to say is that that your bitterness and pin-pointing of such semantics is immature.

#2) What do you think the fair thing would be to do when 2 designers contribute greatly to the design? I did not anticipate this, but it happened. It's more fair than just giving all the prize money to one designer and just asking him/her from another designer. At the end of the day I can award a prize to one designer who copied all of another designers stuff. That's my choice, but I chose to let the designers know that they should use someone else's components and that we'll split the prize. I didn't tell everyone, but the people I didn't tell, I also didn't explicitly say use the other designers element.

Otherwise, like I said above, I admit I should have mentioned the split in the prize in the brief immediately when I figured I'd do that. It's there now and has been for several days.

So honestly bro you're essentially tarnishing my Comment wall here. I don't go to your designs and write how they're so bad for contests your in. And I do find designers whose designs I like--not just any designers. And I don't have to mention it in the prize split. Whatever the staff members says above maybe true, but it's also true that the CH doesn't even have to pay the designers legally. He's just saying that I don't have the right to the copyright without paying the full amount. But I do have the write if I work something else out with the designer. Ya dig. So essentially what I did here is a totally logical way for working this contest. Moreover, the idea is for designers to contribute to an end vision, where each design is not totally different. It's a building process where the designers get to look at each other's designs. I happen to be fair enough to want to split up the prize. I also happen to make my contests winnable so there ACTUALLY IS A PRIZE, by doing whatever it takes to make it a successful contest. I don't see how taking components from different designers designs is a problem if I let them know this and tell them about the split. The only people that needed to be notified were SoulReverie, Converge, and KKKapt, who were the only ones that had their designs part of the final prototype.

So go do a contest where you won't win the money because the CH provides a horrible plan, and does not give any prize out because he A) he's not obligated to do so by 99designs, and B) because he does not have the skills to communicate what he wants and therefore does not get what he wants, and decides not to give a prize for it. Otherwise, we have a successful contest, and the 2 designers that contributed the most are going to be awarded the prize money. I guided all designers very explicitly as they went, and helped the ones that earnestly wanted to win. So the point still remains that a good designer who wants to win my contest will win it and earn the prize money for the % he/she does, and this is not the case with many of the design contests on this site that are not run by a CH with as good of a "prototyping" process as I do. Period.

You'll waste your time more in other contests than you will with my contests. Period.

Heh..I'm quite happy, that I didn't have enough time at first and then when I saw what is happening..

1.) "exact prototypes" - Sorry, but this is not prototype...what you gave us is step▬by▬step guide how to copy&paste elements from different sites and just glue them together somehow. You do not need designer for this, u just need someone, who can use MSpaint a put those pieces together.
2.) Prize split? wtf? You didn't say a word about it in your first email, where you tried to make us feel special (while you sent that probably to first few pages in a list of available designers).

Well... I'm just so happy that I didn't waste my time for this.

Hi All - please be aware that a contest holder does not have the right to the copyright of a winning design in a contest unless they pay the full amount of the prize to the winning designer. We do not support splitting the prize.

If a contest holder wants to award a second and other prizes - we suggest the full amount is paid as secondary prizes - but there can be some negotiation between contest holder and designer on this - we would expect it would be agreed upon through discussion.

@Netraam, I don't care about 2 stars, I told him no thanks the first time because he was using converge's stuff in his mockups but when he asked the second time because he really wasn't getting what he wanted I said ok. If he is going to come a second time he should have told me about a money split before I started. Also, I definitely don't want my work used as a prototype for everybody else to copy. I want feedback so I can fix everything else. Yeah if he's gonna split the money for that part of the site that's fine but I should have been told in his emails and it should have been updated in the brief.

@Telescreen, there is no use to go this harsh just because you feel bad about getting 'just 2 stars'. He did not say anything wrong as he notified designers individually about the split price. This is one of the rare contests where the ch gives as detailed prototypes as possible.
