The Application:
----------------------
The Lunch $ Monitor is an Android 2.3 and up mobile application that allows end users to connect to back-end school systems to get their account information as well as full itinerary on what has been purchased for a specific period of time. The application also has a monitoring aspect where the application will periodically check various account properties and based on user configurable settings, it will alert the user to changes via a notification in the Android status bar.

The icon and graphics should cater towards the end users which will be primarily students and their parents/guardians.

After looking at several designs, what we are looking for would be something along the lines of the following:

      1. A light solid or gradient 'school' color background. Deliberately leaving this vague so as to not box the designers in too much, but if we had to give an example it would be more like primary colors and less like hot pink or neon green.
      2. A lunch box, lunch bag or food items as the primary graphic of the image.
      3. An apple image that is overlayed on top of the image used in item 2 above. However, this apple image will represent time in some fashion. This may be by having the core of the image removed and inside would be clock hands representing time. Or the image may be some new and beautiful merging of an apple and a stopwatch, sundial or something else that represents time to you and other people.

Try using imagery related to a school lunch and the property time applied in some fashion to represent the periodic monitoring of a student's account that the app is doing for the student and/or their guardians/parents.

I like how designs #3 and #4 display the app's name with the '$' character being in a bigger font and this type of style will play nicely in the Android Play Store's feature graphics. As for the Lunch and Monitor aspects, I have the following thoughts. When looking at lunch images, several themes are recurring like food items, lunch boxes, and lunch bags. As an example, I could imagine a lunch bag with a '$' cut out from the center and a stopwatch like image overlayed over part of the lunch bag.

Designers submitting designs should not feel beholden to create the exact image described as your creativity likely can come up with a look never before imagined but highly desired.

The Android Play Store feature graphics should display the name but the icons should avoid any wording as legibility at that level is likely hard unless the end user has a high end display.
