Dootsa Power Press picked a winning design in their book cover contest

For just $499, they received 89 designs from 14 designers.

This is the third professional book cover design process I've been through, and by far the most fun. The web site worked great and the whole process was smooth. Most importantly, I ended up with a great design that I'm happy with. — Matineecaddy

Description

Need a color PDF file for a book cover to give to my printer (DeHarts Media Services, in Santa Clara, CA). The book cover needs to be trade paperback size with a 1/2-inch spine. Wraparound style with full bleed is good. Also need a separate file of just the front cover image to give to Amazon for their e-book distribution service (probably a JPG file). I have an ISBN number but will need a bar code for the back cover. The book price will be $12. The book is basically done. I have a PDF file of the current book I can share if needed. The book interior is typeset in Times New Roman 12pt.

Here is my vision for the cover, but maybe you have a better idea?

1. My vision for the cover is something like what you see on romance novels, showing the main character (a man) in the foreground, his main love interest (a woman) nearby, and a third woman a bit further back, suggesting a love triangle sort of thing. The male lead is carrying a golf bag (caddying). He could either have the bag slung around his back or sitting up on its base with one hand on the edge of the bag.

Of course, the mail lead is handsome and the two woman are very beautiful. The age range for all of them is late twenties to early thirties.

2. The cover setting is a ritzy country club on the north shore of Long Island. In the background you can see the clubhouse, and most of the rest of the cover shows the golf course. The clubhouse is white, in colonial style. You should be able to see one of the greens on the golf course with a flagstick somewhere in front of the clubhouse.

In researching cover images that are similar in tone and feel to what I'm looking for, I found the following book covers on Amazon, so you can look at the book cover images there to see what I am thinking about.

I like these covers because the tone is close to what I'm looking for and they feature a sense of "place" as almost one of the characters.

Debbie Macomber
- 311 Pelican Court
- 24 Rosewood Lane
- 92 Pacific Boulevard
- 1105 Yakima Street

Brenda Joyce
- An Impossible Attraction

Susan Mallory
- Chasing Perfect

Susan Wiggs
- The Summer Hideaway

Of course, I am open to suggestions too. The book is basically a love story with a little guy against big business angle. Even though I like the tone of a romance novel cover, this is not a bodice-ripper kind of book. The most that happens in this book is kissing and hugging, but real love too.

Here is some marketing copy for the back cover (at least a first draft):

Miles Walker never figured he would end up back at the caddy yard. Not after scraping through college and clawing his way to success at Fourth National Bank. But riding high in the big city and the world of high finance would come at a price, a price that might include the love of his life.

With a ravishing old flame as his best friend and confidant, Miles is forced to come to terms with his past and the longings of his heart, as he struggles to find the courage to reveal his deep feelings to the beautiful Beth at work. Meanwhile, Miles is drawn into a battle for his very soul with an unscrupulous boss and the worldwide financial empire he represents.

A curious cat named Headlight and an old friend at the caddy yard help show the way as Miles readies himself for the fight of his life….

Further requirements

Adding a new photo (hal.jpg) for designers to use for an author photo in a cutout on the back cover if this is part of the design. Should be able to cut a decent head shot out of this. My friends seem to like the smile and the beret.
